Joe Griffin - Snow Goose Guide

Joe Griffin

Hometown : Zeeland Michigan

My name is Joe Griffin. I come from a non hunting family. I grew up in a small town in south west Michigan. Growing up with friends who always talked about going hunting, I began to grow an interest when I was 9 years old. I finally convinced my parents to let me go. They probably thought it was just a phase. Long story short, my Mom killed her first duck a few years ago and my Dad joins me at deer camp in the west Menominee County.

Hunting has completely consumed my life. I hunt everything from wood ducks on a creek to black bears in the UP. Bow hunting is a huge passion of mine. I love the sound of an arrow cracking through a buck’s rib cage! Turkey hunting in the spring is always a riot. I love calling in birds for my friends and family. Something about that gobble off the roost always gets me going! However, nothing has my attention like waterfowl. Giant Canada honkers, ducks, lessers, snows, sea ducks in Maryland, early season green wings, I LOVE IT ALL!

I began chasing the white devil four years ago in Missouri. Every waterfowl needs to experience that! Words cannot describe the feeling of tens of thousands of snows descending on you.

My passion for waterfowling grew so fast, I needed to stay involved in the off season, or what I used to call an off season. I began traveling to other states to extend my season, working with conservation groups in my area, and calling competitions. My first contest, I walked on stage with the likes of Field Hudnall and Kile Jones. Completely froze! It gave me so much drive to get better that I started practicing for an hour a day. The next year, I won the Novice Michigan State Goose. After that, I started landing more top three finishes in the Open divisions. I have traveled all over the mid west for these shows. I have met more awesome people at contests than I can begin to count.

Excitement doesn’t even come close to describing how I feel about competing for Field Proven Calls. To be on a team with such accomplished hunters and calling champions is a true honor. Glad to be a Field Proven Pro Staff member!
